Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kosovo
Armend Mehaj was born on July 17, 1981. He completed his studies at the Norwegian Army Military Academy, to further his military education in various programs including the War School.
He holds a degree in Applied Psychology from Bjørknes University College in Oslo, Norway and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Conflict Management at Voldriskovurdering.
Since 2001, he served at the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Norway, during which time he served in various tasks both at the operational, tactical and strategic level. Among other assignments, he participated in three NATO and UN peacekeeping missions.
Due to his high commitment, he was awarded with numerous Medals and recognitions. In 2012, he received the Medal “For special services” – by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania; in 2009 – he was awarded with the United Nations Medal – by the Commander of the United Nations Mission in Chad and Central African Republic; in 2009 – he received the Medal for Participation in International Operations, in the mission in Africa – by the Chief of Defense of the Kingdom of Norway. In 2008, he was awarded with the Medal for International Operations, for participating in the mission in Afghanistan – by the Chief of Defense of the Kingdom of Norway; and the Medal for International Operations, for participating in the mission in Kosovo – by the Chief of Defense of the Kingdom of Norway.
He started his political career in January 2018 and has been engaged as an Advisor for Defense and Security strategy as part of the political party in Kosovo “Vetëvendosje”.
Since March 2021, he is Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kosovo
He is married and father of three daughters. He speaks Norwegian, English, Swedish, Danish and German.
